Wythenshawe Vets Over-35s are located in south Manchester and play in the Cheshire Veterans Division Top Tier.

The lineup this season includes nine former Premier League players, with a collective nearly 1,800 Premier League appearances.

This high-profile squad also includes 222 Premier League scores and over 320 international appearances.

They include Papiss Cisse, who netted 37 goals in over 100 appearances for his former club after moving to them for £9m from German league side Freiburg in January 2012.

Cisse had his first appearance for Wythenshawe in their last home game versus reigning title holders Collegiate Old Boys and netted all six scores in a 6-2 win - featuring a 32-minute opening period triple.

Wythenshawe's roster for this season also includes ex- pros such as England and Liverpool striker Emile Heskey, Hull City and Burnley FC midfielder George Boyd, Toffees striker Oumar Niasse, Wigan defender Maynor Figueroa, City pair Stephen Ireland and Nedum Onuoha and Premier League title winners Joleon Lescott and Danny Drinkwater.

Together, the ex- Premier League players have claimed 15 significant trophies and transferred for combined transfer fees of approximately £123 million.

Household Names and International Players

Stephen Ireland began playing for the team during preseason this summer through close friend and present team teammate Blake Norton, and the former Irish midfielder then invited additional ex-pros, who all compete in a midweek small-sided game, to participate.

Ex- Senegalese forward Oumar Niasse, who scored twelve goals in 65 top-flight games for the Toffees and even now goes to their matches at Goodison Park, also made his debut versus Collegiate OB - who are based in Liverpool and use an Everton training kit as their uniform.

"My friend Stephen Ireland told me 'come and have a game, it's a laugh'," commented the striker.

"After that he told me we were facing a team from Liverpool and the surprise I had when I saw them sporting Blue kits - I say this is wrong for me!

"If you still love football and you know you can still play, anywhere you can play, what are you going to choose?

"The people who come and watch are happy and to give someone's moment if they see us competing there and to pose us queries - it's really about the joy of us getting somewhere we can play, with organisation of course."

So great is the strength in depth at the club, Niasse had his first game at full-back.

"That's a little unusual but then, I love running and just go forward - I'm not defending that much," he said.

"I tell my centre-back 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to continue attacking.

"That running is what I'm after. It's good fun."

Dreamlike' Scenario

In addition to Cisse's 6 goals on his first game, Ireland has scored 8 in 3 appearances for the side, while George Boyd hit five on his debut match and Joleon Lescott, a centre-half by trade, notched a hat-trick in one game as a striker.

The team are leading of the Premier Tier with three victories from three and a GD of +19.

One opponent, 38, who features on the wing for the opposition, came up against ex- Wigan full-back Maynor Figueroa on the weekend - and had to explain his young son who Emile Heskey was.

He has appeared at two World Cups for Honduras, in addition to playing in more than 200 top-flight matches.

"The news was going round like wildfire they had these ex-Premier League stars," said the player.

"I felt I was a little awestruck facing Figueroa to be honest.

"Also Heskey got on and he's has 60-odd English appearances.

"We held our own for a good 20 mins but then we had a player sent off and it was hard.

"Our group really haven't stopped chatting about it - I was calling my mum and brother on the way home.

"They were all dead sound, shaking our hands after the match - it was like playing a group of regular fellas.

"Now we are eager for the return match."
