2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming unveiling last fall.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer informed staff about this strategic move through an official communication, which stressed that playtesting had indicated the need for a distinct vision.
Ismailer expressed that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a renewed vision, aiming to satisfy community desires.
The news follows a similar action taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the BioShock development group.
Here is the complete text from Ismailer's announcement:
Hello Everyone—
I know you all just wrapped up your meeting - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Last time I sent you all a update, I expressed the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative creators we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to persist.”
With your dedication and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was revealing. It confirmed the potential of a action-packed game but indicated we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the need for a more distinct identity.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the feedback to mind and revamped the title with a revitalized direction - one that’s ready to deliver on its promise to our players.
The trust in Project ETHOS increases every day. To further the incredible development you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the latest Lead of the team. Following several months of conversations, Ben comes aboard us on the specified date.
Ben’s guidance and experience in the PVP shooter field is vast, having dedicated the recent years developing and leading some of the most well-known series in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and lately, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in receiving Ben next week. We are all looking forward to continue witnessing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the months to follow.
David
Brinkman presently serves in the position of senior developer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman earlier worked at major gaming companies in diverse development positions on the iconic franchise games, and, prior to that, had assignments at other industry leaders.
Project Ethos was announced in October 2024 in conjunction with a public demo. Then, 31st Union presented the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting advancement on the style."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in live gameplay to match your preferred approach," the description reads. "Challenge the rivals with fresh skills, stakes, and tests that shift every round. Will you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Alternatively aim high, gamble everything, and pray your squad can earn top ranking? The option is yours."
The game has not yet received an announced release date or consoles, but enthusiasts can look forward to further news as creation continues.
